Down to work

Today the projects started. Groups were re-arranged slightly but I still had my favourite 3. Our first project was to do promotion material for China students coming to visit Coventry. After a lot of time wasting and confusion, we finally got the right end of the stick and got cracking. Communication was slow, and it was very easy to get confused, but we still worked on.

Yesterday I was quite interested that both logos for the University had birds in them, so I thought that would be a good theme to start. It was quite difficult to get the Chinese students to start getting ideas down, but with explaining, and using visuals, they all came up with one idea each that were actually really good. I didn't want to hurt any of them, so we went through one by one and I said what was good. I managed to merge 2 ideas into one for the logo, which was further developed by the chinese students, and used the other idea as part of an image to be used on the flyer. I made up the designs on Photoshop, and everyone suggested tweaking to the shapes and colours.

For the writing I thought that it would make sense for the media students to take part, especially as we were advertising Coventry so the Chinese students didn't have anything to write about. The one journalist student from China helped us with design ideas and I think she really enjoyed it. In the end I mocked up as much as possible on InDesign, and although the english journalists did do some design work we still ended up with no text. Overall I'm pleased that we had a strong concept and worked quite well as a team.
